Chris Abani is a Nigerian author and poet. He was arrested as a political prisoner, his first arrest coming at the age 18 as a response to his novel, Masters of the Board. Abani is a two-time winner of a New York Times Editor’s Choice for his novels. In 2008 he was the recipient of the Distinguished Humanist Award and he is a recipient of the PEN Freedom-to-Write Award.
